1902 National Bank Note

National Bank Notes were issued in 1863 during the Civil War. The Untied States government granted charters to individual banks, which were than permitted to issue National Bank Notes based on the amount of money they had deposited in United States bonds through the United States Treasury. In addition to creating stable national banking system, the notes also helped raise funds for the United States in the war against the Confederate States.
